The paralympian blade runner, Oscar Pistorius, was arrested for having fatally shot Reeva Steenkamp. They were in the fourth month of dating when Reeva stayed over for a couple of nights. During the early morning hours of February 14, 2013, she had her clothes packed and about to leave. She was giving a presentation about domestic violence in the at around noon.
An argument was heard by neighbors that seemed to come from his house between 1:00 and 3:15 a.m that ended after four gun shots. Reeva died on the scene.
He insisted he thought she was an intruder who broke in through the bathroom window and he claimed self defense. This is unlikely because the window is simply too high. Although there were ladders in the back, his version is not believable, particularly with witnesses who heard them fighting for two hours.
They reside in South Africa and Mr. Pistorius’s family and relatives are quite wealthy having started businesses dating back to 1944. They are gun collectors and Oscar had recently applied to possess a number of various weapons to begin his own collection. He had guns stored in a safe in his home that belonged to his father, but the application for his collection had not yet cleared. The Pistorius family also enjoys hunting large animals as a sport.
The trial began in March 2014 and Oscar took the stand in his own defense. He displays an overwhelming amount of emotion. His defense attorney is so adamant trying to convince the witnesses to agree with him that he practically badgers them. However, the points he doggedly pursues are important to his client’s guilt or innocence.
